Alan Clyne defeated England's Jonathan Harford in three games to win the inaugural Kent Open in fine style on Sunday.
After a struggle to win his first round match against another Englishman, Joel Hinds, in five games, Clyne then won his quarter-final against Malaysia's Ivan Yuen in three. Another struggle in the semi-final against the Netherland's Piedro Schweertman - a 70 minute marathon that he won 12-10 in the fifth, earned him a place in the final against Harford, who was given a walkover in his semi.
Having played Harford on two previous occasions with Harford winning their first meeting and Clyne winning the second, the final was poised to be a classic. Clyne completely dominated the front court however and proved to be far too strong physically - leaving Harford trying to play catch up throughout the match.
This win gives Clyne his fourth PSA Title and will provide a strong confidence boost for his next event - La Ciotat International Squash Open in France commencing on June 10, where he is the No.2 seed. |
